One of the most important things you have to do as a pet parent, is give your dog or puppy a name.
For some, the puppy or dog may already have a name before they come home with you. You then have to decide if you want to keep that name or rename them. If you are renaming the dog, it is important to do so as soon as possible, so they respond when you call for them.
Deciding on a name can be done before bringing your fur baby home. Though many pet parents prefer to observe the puppy or dog for a few days or weeks, to choose a name based on the personality of their pooch.
In case you are having a difficult time deciding on a name, here are some suggestions to make the name decision a little easier!
Ideas to choose the perfect name for your new puppy or dog:
- Observe your dog's behavior and pick a name based on their personality.
- Name them after your favorite sports team.
- Pick a letter from the alphabet and think of as many words that start with that letter.
- Use a baby name book to find the perfect name.
- Name your new puppy after your favorite snack or beverage.
- Brainstorm all the adjectives that describe the appearance of your puppy or dog.
- Name them after your favorite singer or actor.
- Ask your friends and family for suggestions.
Eventually you will find the perfect name for your puppy or dog!
Once you have chosen a name, be sure to use the name consistently with your new fur baby. The sooner they learn their new name, the easier it will be when you begin puppy training.

My mom has a running list on her computer of names she hears and likes. When she needs a name she always checks that list first. Sometimes you hear a name, love it, but forget about it when you really need to remember.

DeleteI named Matilda after the movie/book because I knew she was going to be a clever little girl. It's not the easieSt name to call out, I usually emphasize the middle syllable or call her "Tillz" or "Tilda"
