Over the years, we came up with some interesting names for our pets, to say the least.
My Dad had a rule, none of our pets could be named after a human. Their name had to be a fictional character, an adjective, an object or a place.
When I became an adult, I carried on this tradition of pet naming criteria, my favorite are those inspired by nature. It seems this tradition has rubbed off on my children as well! My one child is drawn to naming pets after their favorite snacks or food.
So in honor of my wonderful childhood memories and my amazing children, I'm sharing a few pet names! You guessed it, of course they are food related!

Haha, that's such a fun post! James his mommy is a brown lab and is called after a choco brand: Kwatta! His sister is Pepsi :D!

DeleteLove the photo montage you created. No, my pets (even fish) have always had people names. I recently lost my cat Kaitlynn. That was a trendy name - so many people told me during the last 17 years, "my grand-daughter is named Kaitlynn." No one has told me their grand-daughter was named Fudge - fortunately. (Though one of my favourite horses was named Kiwi).

DeleteKona was on our list of dog names but we ended up keeping Mr. N's name from foster care.

DeleteI volunteer at an animal shelter and we always had to come up with creative names. My favorite food names were for two kittens, which we named peanut butter and jelly!

DeleteLOL as a child we had a dog called Whiskey but other wise non have not named our pets after foods. I gave her the name Layla which means night in Hebrew as she arrived at night from the shelter

DeleteThese names are so cute! I love the candy ones - Rolo and KitKat. I have 6 cats - 3 have human names (Delilah, Sampson, and Sophie), and 3 have "other" names (Sassy, Caster - named after my husband's guitar a Stratocaster, and Kylo Ren - named after the villain in the newest Star Wars movie).

DeleteThis post makes me chuckle. My husband and I met at a wine bar called 'Henry's' so, that is where his name came from. Our second little mill dog was called Breeze Kent. We shortened it to Reese - after the petite actress who has played some strong female roles. It never occurred to me that people would assume they were named after chocolate bars until my friend Amy pointed it out.

DeleteWe had two rescue dogs in a row (over many years) called Cookie. Now I have Kilo which could be part of a recipe I guess. Our rescue kittens were named after Disney characters like Simba and Nala.

DeleteIt is funny how many pets are named after food! I had a rabbit named Cookie when I was a kid. Technically speaking, my cat, Manna, is named after food too. Manna is the miraculous bread eaten the the Israelites during their time in the desert according to the Bible.

What a cute list of names. We have human names - Lola and Lexy. Mommy kept our names from the shelter because she felt the fit us.

DeleteHow cute is this post!! As a dog trainer, I've trained dogs with many of the names on your list! I always ask folks how they came up with the names for their dogs because I think that's always interesting and tells me a lot about the owner!

DeleteMy parents named our first Bullmastiff, Custard, and then named a Yorkie Pudding. Which I didn't get at the time, but now I think a Yorkshire named Pudding is pretty funny. I love fun names for dogs, but most of my dogs have had human names.

DeleteMy cat's name was Pumpkin! He was born in the fall and he was orange, so I named him Pumpkin! I don't like giving my pets human names either. Gracie already had her name when I got her, but it fits her perfectly anyway. She is very graceful. Echo's name unfortunately fits him too! Lol. He is very noisy.

DeleteI've always like the name Oreo, especially for black & white pets. Maybe 'cause I just love oreo's! We had a feral cat my Mom named Peaches years ago. Mom loved that sweet kitty. For a feral cat she was so friendly & sweet.

I'm partial to Oreo too! I've always thought it to be the perfect name for a Tuxedo kitty. Peaches is a nice name, I picture an orange tabby with a name so sweet ❤
DeleteWhat a fun post! I am hungry now! LOL! I love hearing origins of pets' names! Three of our Huskies are named after someone or something in music... Gibson Les Paul, the guitar, of course! Wolfgang is for VanHalen & Mozart. Chloe Van Wylde for VanHalen & Zakk Wylde (Chloe because it's a fave name of my daughter's). Harley is actually not after the motorcycle, but rather another favorite name of my daughter's, and it's the perfect moniker as it suits her perfectly because if she could drive one, she would! And Bandit because her puppy mask looked liked a bandit's!

For five years or so I volunteered at the largest cat and kitten rescue in Southern California -- a couple of thousand rescues a year -- so you can imagine how many names we had to come up with. Litters of kittens had fruit, vegetable, spice names etc. We even once had a mom cat named Tomato.
