Dog Mom opening gifts under the Christmas Tree with her Yorkshire Terrier

The day after Thanksgiving marks the start of preparations for Christmas, for most. There are of course the exceptions,  I do have some friends and family who start in July, I'm sure you do too. I for one, tend to be in the category of last minute shoppers! When do you begin planning for Christmas?

One of the first steps I take in preparation for the holiday, is to make a  a list of everyone I need to get a gift for.  I like to jot down a few items, next to their name, of gifts I think they would appreciate.  I try to come up with one of a kind, unique gift ideas, before heading out to shop.  I also enjoy making handmade gifts, they are always well received by my family and friends.

As I was beginning my list this year, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my dog mom gift ideas with you.  Many of these gifts will cost you little to no money, just your kindness and time.

Whether you've almost wrapped up your shopping or just getting started, there is sure to be something here you'll find perfect for that special dog mom.

Unique Gift Ideas for Dog Moms

  • Coupon Book for Pet Sitting  This can be from a professional pet sitter or a handmade coupon book where you volunteer your time to pet sit.  The sessions could be for a few hours a couple of times a week, for a weekend or for an entire week.
  • Gift Certificate for Vet Visit  What pet parent wouldn't appreciate having all or part of their dog's next vet check up covered! Most veterinarian offices offer gift certificates.  Just be sure to get the certificate from the recipients veterinarian of choice.
  • Homemade Dog Treats  If you enjoy baking, a batch of homemade dog biscuits or other treats, make a thoughtful gift.  It's a good idea to make sure the dog doesn't have any food restrictions due to health issues or allergies and choose a recipe accordingly.  You can package the treats in a bakery style box or purchase a pretty canister.
  • Photography Session Any dog mom would love a photo shoot with their furbaby.  You could arrange to have this done by a professional pet photographer or if you have photography skills, you could be the photographer.
  • Painted Portrait of their Dog There are many companies to choose from that offer a digital painting or you could hire an artist to paint a portrait.  Some artists will paint a portrait from a photograph or with the dog physically at their studio.  If you are a talented artist, you could create the portrait yourself to give as a gift.
  • Dog Wash Tickets  There are dog washes popping up in towns all over the place now! You can purchase tickets from the dog wash, or some offer gift cards or certificates.  Another option is to create your own tickets, for the recipient to redeem, with you as the personal dog washer.
  • Pooper Scooper Services Who would say no to this service? No one ever!  You can volunteer yourself as the official pooper scooper or get a gift certificate from a professional service.
  • Volunteer At Their Shelter of Choice If the dog mom in your life is an active volunteer at a shelter, having you offer your time, is one of the most heart warming gifts you can give.  Plus it's a win win for the dog mom, the shelter and all the furbabies at the shelter!  You decide how much time you can offer, it could be a one time occurrence, a few hours once a month or once a week for a year.
  • Dog Bakery Gift Card This would make the perfect gift for a dog mom who frequents the local dog bakery.  You could also get a gift card for an online bakery, for someone who doesn't have one in their town.
  • Dog Magazine Subscription A magazine subscription is a great gift that keeps giving throughout the year.  There are a variety to choose from, making it easy to find the perfect match for your dog mom.  I like to purchase the current issue and wrap it in a box with a little note letting them know they have a gift subscription for a year or two.
  • Decorated Memory Box If you enjoy being crafty, this is a fun gift to make and receive.  Purchase a blank memory box from the craft store and embellish with doggie themed fabric, stickers, ribbons, etc.  A perfect way for a dog mom to store photos and other memoribilia of her dog.  Perfect for the world travelers, show dogs or dog sport enthusiasts.
  • Dinner and Movie Date This gift has lots of variables, giving you the opportunity to customize the gift for the recipient.   You can take the dog mom and her pooch out to a dog friendly establishment for a meal and then off to a dog friendly movie theater. Or if this option is not available in your hometown,  you can set up to have dinner at your place and pop a dog themed movie in for viewing with the meal. You can even create a theme for the meal and table setting based on the movie you will be viewing.
Just writing this list has me super excited to get started on a few of these items!  Which is your favorite on the list?   Have any suggestions to add to the list? I'm always in search of new ideas.  Whichever you choose, you'll be sure to brighten any dog mom's day!
